Test Management using Folders

We’re delighted to announce the latest addition to useMango: Organising your tests using folders.

Up to this point, test management could be done using tags or assignees, segregating tests from among a large pool of tests using relevant tags or the assignees. However, this was hectic since the users had to segregate related tests by setting the filters.

We have now introduced folders for managing tests, allowing for better organisation of tests within these folders.

Folders provide a structured and hierarchical way to organise tests, which can significantly enhance the management and accessibility of tests. By categorising tests into folders, users can group related tests together based on criteria such as project, module, functionality, or test type. This organisation simplifies navigation and allows users to quickly locate specific tests without having to sift through a large pool of tests.

Additionally, with the introduction of folders, we allow the users to move/copy tests simply by dragging and dropping across folders.

Ready for an exciting journey into the specifics? Let’s go!

Introduction

With our newest addition, you’ll find a new folder panel in the Tests tab, presenting folders in a convenient tree structure, making all your folders easily accessible.

By right-clicking on any folder, you can access a menu offering various options for managing your folders. Let’s explore some of these options together.

Folder Creation

Initially, all your tests are located in a folder named “Root”. To create a new folder within Root, simply right-click on the root folder and select “New Folder”. Once created, you can rename your folder to a suitable name and populate it with additional folders or create new tests, and even move or copy existing ones into it.

Now, let’s dive into the functionalities of moving and copying tests

Moving / Copying Tests

You can move or copy tests within folders using either the context menu or the drag-and-drop method.

Let’s first look at the context menu approach.

Context menu

To move or copy tests using the context menu:

  1. Select the tests you want to copy/move.

2. Right-click and select ‘Cut/Copy’ from the menu.

You can differentiate the cut and copy actions by the graying out of the selected tests for cutting.

3. Right-click on the destination folder, and choose ‘Paste’.

There you have it! Your operation is complete.

Let’s now look at a a sleeker approach, using drag and drop.

Drag and drop

Select the tests you want to move or copy.

For moving: Simply drag the selected test(s) to the desired destination folder as shown below.

For copying: drag the selected test(s) to the desired destination folder while holding the Ctrl key as shown below.

Release the mouse button to drop the test(s) into the destination folder.

Setting Working Directory

Let’s briefly touch upon setting a folder as a working directory for users who predominantly work within that folder, allowing useMango to open directly into that folder upon project launch.

By default, the working directory is set to the root directory. To set a different folder as the working directory, simply right-click on it and select ‘Set Working Directory’.
